A Round-Table Discussion on The Future of Sciences and Engineering Education & Research
Monday 24 June 2024, at The Athens Institute’s Downtown Office

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of the Round-Table Discussion on The Future of Sciences and Engineering Education & Research organized by The Athens Institute. The event took place at The Athens Institute’s Downtown Office, located at 9 Chalkokondili Street, Athens. The program is available at: www.atiner.gr/events/24June2024.pdf

The discussion began with a short talk by Dr. Gregory T. Papanikos, President of the Athens Institute, who also served as the moderator for the event. Following his introduction, the discussion featured a lineup of invited speakers and interventions from distinguished academics across

the globe. Glen Bright, Dean and Head of the School of Engineering at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, discussed ‘The Impact of Disruptive Technologies on Science and Engineering‘. Timothy Young, Emeritus Professor at The University of Tennessee, USA, and CEO of T.M. Young Institute, LLC, presented on ‘The Future of Human Activity in Work as The Application of Innovation and Artificial Intelligence Research Accelerates‘. Theodore Trafalis, Professor at The University of Oklahoma, USA, delved into ‘Artificial Intelligence in Sciences and Engineering Education & Research‘. Dimitrios Goulias, Associate Professor at the University of Maryland, USA, addressed ‘Integrating Sustainability and Resilience in Engineering & Sciences through Experiential Learning‘. George Zahariadis, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, explored ‘Why Are Educational Institutions Suing Social Media Providers?’. Lastly, Evangelos Kaisar, Professor at Florida Atlantic University, USA, highlighted ‘Integrating Research and Teaching in the Classroom: Benefits for Instructors and Students‘.

The discussion also featured interventions by esteemed professors such as Nabil Al-Omaishi (Professor, The College of New Jersey, USA), Alan Atalah (Professor, Bowling Green State University, USA), Shengyuan Chen (Professor, York University, Canada), Andres Gonzalez (Associate Professor, University of Oklahoma, USA), Pavel Ikonomov (Professor, Western Michigan University, USA), Jacek Pietraszek (Professor, Cracow University of Technology, Poland), John Ogola (Professor, University of Venda, South Africa), Md. Safiuddin (Professor, George Brown College, Canada), Dillip Das (Associate Professor, University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa), Izabela Stroe (Associate Professor, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, USA), Laura Fox (Visiting Professor and Director, Farmed Animal Advocacy Clinic, Vermont Law and Graduate School, USA), and Stathis Pauls (DPFLI Site Manager & Programs Coordinator, MSU Extension, USA), ensuring a rich and diverse academic discourse.

After the round-table, lunch was offered to all the participants, where the discussion continued.
