Dr. Sonia Salari (Professor, University of Utah, USA)
has accepted the offer from the Athens Institute to serve as the next Deputy Director of the Social Sciences Division
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Sonia Salari (Professor, University of Utah, USA) has accepted the offer from the Athens Institute to serve as the next Deputy Director of the Social Sciences Division.
As Deputy Director, Dr. Salari will collaborate with the Division Director, Dr. Philip G. Cerny, Professor Emeritus at the University of Manchester (UK) and Rutgers University (USA) in organizing all conferences and small symposia hosted by the division.
Additionally, she will serve as Associate Editor of the Athens Journal of Social Sciences.

Sonia Salari, PhD, FGSA, is a Professor in the Department of Family and Consumer Studies at the University of Utah and a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America. Her research focuses on family violence, elder abuse, and IPV across the life course, with special attention to underserved communities. A long-time advocate, she co-founded the Utah Gender Based Violence Consortium and served as Chair of the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition. Dr. Salari was co-PI on an OVW Campus Grant addressing domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. She has authored several works, including Family Violence Across the Life Course (2nd ed., 2021) and Bloomsbury Family Violence and Abuse Encyclopedia (2024). A recipient of the University Distinguished Teaching Award and Distinguished Faculty Service Award, she has taught for nearly 30 years and served as President of the University Academic Senate (2022–2023)
