A Microsymposium on Migration
as part of the 18th Annual International Conference on Global Studies: Business, Economic, Political, Social and Cultural Aspects
18-21 December 2024, Athens, Greece
The Athens Institute is organizing a Microsymposium on Migration as part of the 18th Annual International Conference on Global Studies: Business, Economic, Political, Social and Cultural Aspects, 18-21 December 2024, Athens, Greece
According to the latest Migration Report by the International Organization for Migration, there are currently 281 million international migrants in the world. International migration flows have intensified in the Mediterranean area related to political and economic upheavals and security concerns that occurred in the Middle East in the last decade. The number of internationally and internally replaced people has also increased in Africa, Southern Asia, and America. Therefore, target countries, as well as transition countries had to face bigger and more complicated challenges. These include, among others, ensuring safety for the most vulnerable, improving humanitarian conditions of refugees, better organizing sources used for migrants, developing new legal frameworks, easing social cohesion, and enhancing livelihood opportunities. The intensification and complexity of the migration phenomenon leads migration studies to become multi-disciplinary and far-reaching. Migration studies are developed all around the world in search of answers to the reasons, dynamics, and consequences of internal and international migration. This research field is important for better shaping public policies and other national or international actors’ strategies.

The Athens Institute invites scholars from all disciplines to contribute to the special session on Migration and share their works, ideas, views, and experiences. You may participate as a presenter of one paper and/or an attendee.
Please submit an abstract (email only) to: atiner@atiner.gr, using the abstract submission form by 5 November 2024 to: Dr. Mehmet Cevat Yildirim, Lecturer, Gaziantep University, Turkey.
Abstracts should include the following: Title of Paper, Full Name (s), Affiliation, Current Position, an email address, and at least 3 keywords that best describe the subject of your submission. Decisions are reached within 4 weeks.

Special arrangements will be made with a local hotel for a limited number of rooms at a special conference rate. In addition, a number of special events will be organized which give a great opportunity to further discuss the issues presented at the conference. From Athens Institute’s long experience these events bring together scholars from different countries and disciplines which may result to research collaborations and joint publications. These events include a pragmatic symposium (as organized in Ancient Athens but fine-tuned to synchronous ethics), a special one-day educational island tour, a Mycenae and island of Poros visit, an Athens educational walking tour, a day trip to Delphi, and an ancient Corinth and Cape Sounion visit. Details of the social program are available here.
