On Monday 20 July 2026, as part of the academic program of the Athens Institute, a Symposium on “Science and Technology in the Age of AI” was held at the Athens Institute premises in Athens.

The symposium was moderated by Dr. Bala Maheswaran, Director, Engineering Division, Athens Institute & Professor, Northeastern University, USA.

The session featured presentations by Dr. Nikos Mourtos (Professor, San Jose State University, USA); Dr. Timothy M. Young (Emeritus Professor, The University of Tennessee, USA & CEO and President, T.M. Young Institute, LLC, USA); Dr. Kailash Narayan Pandey (Professor, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology Allahabad, India); and Dr. Yelena Istileulova (Researcher, University of Ljubljana and Head of STEAM Session of the Socratic Lectures Symposium, Slovenia).

Interventions were also delivered by Dr. Tom Wanyama (Associate Professor, McMaster University, Canada); Dr. Andres Tremante (Professor, Florida International University, USA); Dr. Julia P. Shaw (Professor, SUNY Empire State University, USA); and Dr. Costa Karavas (Assistant Professor, University Canada West, Canada).

The symposium explored the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on science, technology, and engineering, with particular emphasis on the evolving relationship between AI and human intelligence, the future of science and engineering education, and the challenges and opportunities arising from the rapid advancement of AI technologies. Presentations and discussions examined the role of AI in shaping research, innovation, and professional practice, while highlighting the need for responsible approaches to integrating AI into academic and technological development.
