Cruise Tourism

A Small Symposium on “Cruise Tourism”
as part of the 1
6th Annual International Conference on Tourism
8-11 June 2020, Athens, Greece
Sponsored by the Athens Journal of Tourism

The Tourism, Leisure & Recreation Unit of ATINER will organize a Small Symposium on “Cruise Tourism” as part of the  16th Annual International Conference on Tourism, 8-11 June 2020, Athens, Greece sponsored by the Athens Journal of Tourism

The cruise industry is one of the most important growth sectors in the tourism market. During recent decades, cruise tourism has seen enormous growth in both passenger numbers and destinations. The downside of this growth is the impact on environment and fragile ecosystem of many destinations. Associating the paradigm of sustainable development with the practice of cruise tourism might represent a solution to the problems faced by the industry. However, much remains to be done to balance the rapidly growing demand for cruising with its impacts and environmental values. Selected papers from this symposium will be considered in a Special Issue of the Athens Journal of Tourism. You may participate as presenter of one paper or observer.

Fee structure information is available on www.atiner.gr/fees.

Special arrangements will be made with a local hotel for a limited number of rooms at a special conference rate. In addition, a number of special events will be organized, including a pragmatic symposium (as organized in Ancient Athens but fine-tuned to synchronous ethics), a special one-day educational island tour, a Mycenae and island of Poros visit, an Athens educational walking tour, a day trip to Delphi, and an ancient Corinth and Cape Sounion visit. Details of the social program are available here.
