A Special Session on “Law and Culture”
as part of the 9th Annual International Symposium on Culture and Civilization
10-13 June 2024, Athens, Greece
ATINER is organizing a Special Session on “Law and Culture” as part of the 9th Annual International Symposium on Culture and Civilization, 10-13 June 2024, Athens, Greece.
The relationship between law and culture has always been the subject of debate in the legal and cultural studies disciplines. It sought to define, redefine, and explore the differences and similarities between legal cultures and traditions. It also attempted to explore further the definition and regulation of culture through law and vice versa. It generated and challenged hegemonies and addressed issues of collectivities and individualities. More recently, it has been transformed, transgressed, and expiated into subdisciplines such as law as/and aesthetics, law as/and performance and law as/and Art by exposing a more sensuous side.
The purpose of this session is to explore further the relationship of law and culture through aesthetics in its wider sense, that of stylistic expression and the senses. This session invites abstracts on:
- Stylistic expression: Courtroom dress, dress codes
- Law and the senses: Law’s emotions
You may participate as presenter of one session or observer. Selected papers will be considered for publication in the Athens Journal of Humanities & Arts.
Please submit an abstract (by email only) to: atiner@atiner.gr, using the abstract submission form by 30 April 2024 to: Dr. Anna Chronopoulou, Academic Member, ATINER & Senior Lecturer, University of Westminster, UK. Abstracts should include the following details: Title of Paper, Full Name (s), Affiliation, Current Position, an email address, and at least 3 keywords that best describe the subject of your submission. Decisions are reached within 4 weeks.
Fee structure information is available on www.atiner.gr/fees.
