An academic discussion on the future of education and research
was held on Saturday, 4 July 2026, in downtown Athens

Our Annual International Conference, 29-30 June & 1-3 July 2026, concluded today in downtown Athens with an informal academic discussion on the future of education and research.
The discussion brought together:
  • Ampalavanar Nanthakumar, Director, Sciences Division, Athens Institute & Distinguished Teaching Professor, State University of New York at Oswego, USA
  • Michael Dorff, Professor & Chair, Department of Mathematics, Brigham Young University, USA
  • Evangelos Xevelonakis, Professor, HWZ Zurich University of Applied Sciences in Business Administration, Switzerland
  • Gregory T. Papanikos, President of the Athens Institute
  • Olga Gkounda and Kostas Spyropoulos from the administration of the Athens Institute.

The participants continued their discussion on the establishment of the Athens Institute Undergraduate Competitions, focusing on their structure, academic scope, and potential contribution to promoting undergraduate research excellence internationally.

Of particular importance in the discussion was the contribution of Professor Michael Dorff, who has previously served as President of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA).

The discussion provided an opportunity for a productive exchange of ideas on current developments in education, research innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration across institutions and countries.
