The Athens Institute, on the occasion of the national anniversary of the Greek revolution against the Ottomans aiming to establish an independent state, is organizing its a Microsymposium on “Revolutions of National Independence and the Birth of the Nation-State during the 18th and 19th Centuries” as part of the 19th Annual International Conference on Mediterranean Studies, 30-31 March & 1-2 April 2026, Athens, Greece.

The event will explore the political, social, and cultural dimensions of the struggles for independence that reshaped the concepts of sovereignty, citizenship, and identity on a global scale.
