A Round-Table Discussion on The Future of Science and Technology

On Monday, 21 July 2025, the Athens Institute successfully hosted a round-table discussion on “The Future of Science and Technology” at its downtown venue in Athens.
Moderated by Dr. Gregory T. Papanikos, President of the Athens Institute, the event brought together distinguished academics from around the world to discuss the evolving role of science and technology in shaping the future. The session featured presentations from Dr. Bala Maheswaran (Northeastern University, USA), who spoke on Empowering Global Citizens Through Science and Technology for a
Sustainable Future; Dr. Assimina (Mina) A. Pelegri (Rutgers University, USA), who explored the role of AI in Engineering Education and Research; Dr. Vladimir V. Riabov (Rivier University, USA), who addressed Disastrous Challenges to Humanity; Dr. Katsutoshi Kawashima (Osaka Sangyo University, Japan), who presented on Japanese Students’ Reading Skills and STEAM Education; and Dr. Nirusha Thavarajah (University of Toronto, Canada), who discussed the intersection of chemistry and data science in her talk When Molecules Meet Machine Learning.
The discussion was further enriched by a brief intervention from Mr. Rachid Kherrazi (WailSalutem Foundation, The Netherlands), offering an additional perspective to the dialogue.
The round-table underscored the critical importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and global engagement in addressing contemporary challenges and opportunities in science and technology.
