Dr. William Davis (Professor, The Colorado College, USA)
has accepted the offer from the Athens Institute to serve as the next Head of the
 Literature Unit

Dr. William Stephen Davis is Professor of Comparative Literature and German at Colorado College, where he also serves as Director of the Program in Comparative Literature. With a Ph.D. in German Studies and Humanities from Stanford University and a scholarly background shaped by studies at Universität Düsseldorf, Harvard, and Brigham Young University, Dr. Davis is a specialist in Romanticism, German Classicism, literary theory, and comparative literature. His research spans the works of Goethe, Schelling, Novalis, Byron, and Shelley, exploring intersections of philosophy, poetics, and cultural history. He has published extensively in top journals such as Essays in Romanticism, European Romantic Review, The German Quarterly, and The Germanic Review, and has presented his work at major international conferences. Dr. Davis’ monograph Romanticism, Hellenism, and the Philosophy of Nature appeared with Palgrave Press in 2018. It forms part of a larger project on Romantic Hellenism, Philhellenism, and cultural representations of Greece in the nineteenth century. 

 

As the Head, Dr. Davis will collaborate with the Director (Dr. David Philip Wick, Retired Professor of History, Gordon College, USA) and the Deputy Director (Dr. Krasimir Kabakciev) of the Arts, Humanities and Education Division in the organization of all the conferences (small symposiums) organized by the Division. He will also serve as associate editor of the Athens Journal of Philology.
