Dr. Haralambos Symeonidis (Professor, University of Kentucky, USA)
has accepted the offer from the Athens Institute to serve as the next Head of the
 Languages & Linguistics Unit

Haralambos Symeonidis is a distinguished Professor of Spanish Linguistics and Co-Director of the Atlas Lingüístico Guaraní-Románico (ALGR), a project aimed at exploring linguistic phenomena in the Guaranitic region of South America. He holds a notable position as a professor at the Middlebury Language School, both in its summer program and at its Buenos Aires campus since 2012. His academic journey has included prestigious invitations as a scholar at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. As a Romance linguist with a focus on Iberoromance languages, Professor Symeonidis has a deep interest in the interactions between languages, particularly Spanish, Portuguese, and Guaraní, as well as Judeo-Spanish. His research covers language contact, bilingualism, and linguistic policies in Latin America, with a specific emphasis on the Guaranitic area. Additionally, he serves as the Executive Director of the KFLC (Kentucky Foreign

Language Conference). His academic background spans several prestigious institutions, including Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, Universidad de Granada, and Università di Trento.

As the Head, Dr. Symeonidis will collaborate with the Director (Dr. David Philip Wick, Retired Professor of History, Gordon College, USA) and the Deputy Director (Dr. Krasimir Kabakciev) of the Arts, Humanities and Education Division in the organization of all the conferences (small symposiums) organized by the Division. He will also serve as associate editor of the Athens Journal of Philology.
