Launch of the Athens Institute Undergraduate Mathematics Competition

On Friday, 28 August, the Athens Institute held an online meeting in preparation for the launch of the Athens Institute Undergraduate Mathematics Competition.

The meeting brought together Prof. Michael Dorff (Brigham Young University), Prof. Ellina Grigorieva (Texas Woman’s University), Prof. Codruta Simona Stoica (“Aurel Vlaicu” University of Arad), Prof. Ampalavanar Nanthakumar (SUNY Oswego), Prof. Bala Maheswaran (Northeastern University), and Prof. Theodore Trafalis (The University of Oklahoma).

The participants discussed the final details of the competition, including eligibility for papers with multiple undergraduate authors, participation by students from non-mathematics departments, the potential use of AI in the initial review process, and effective ways to promote the competition and encourage undergraduate participation.

The meeting marked an important final step toward the official launch of this new initiative, which aims to encourage undergraduate students to engage in mathematical research and share their work with an international academic community.
