Round-Table Discussion on Demographics and Politics

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of the Round-Table Discussion on Demographics and Politics organized by The Athens Institute. The event took place at The Athens Institute’s Downtown Office, located at 9 Chalkokondili Street, Athens. The program is available at: www.atiner.gr/events/17June2024.pdf

The discussion began with a short talk by Dr. Gregory T. Papanikos, President of the Athens Institute, who also served as the moderator for the event. Following his introduction, the discussion featured a distinguished panel of experts who shared valuable insights on various topics related to demographics and politics. Dr. Domenico Maddaloni, Professor at the

University of Salerno, Italy, presented on “Demographics and Politics in Italy.” Dr. Renato Flores, Director of FGV IIU International Intelligence Unit & Professor at FGV EPGE Graduate School of Economics, Brazil, discussed “Demographics and Global Governance”. Dr. Sonia Salari, Professor at the University of Utah, USA, explored the “Demographics of Age, Aging, and Politics in the U.S.” Dr. Valery Buinwi Ferim, Senior Lecturer at the University of Fort Hare, South Africa, examined the “Demographics of Political Party Leadership in South Africa.” Dr. Sriparna Dutta, Associate Professor at Khudiram Bose Central College, University of Calcutta, India, provided insights on “Political Demography and Youth – Perspectives on West Bengal, India.” Dr. Martina Rašticová, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Management at Mendel University in Brno, Czech Republic, addressed “Digitalization and Demographic Shifts: Political Strategies for Integrating Older Workers.” Finally, Dr. Ahmed Shafiqul Huque, Professor, McMaster University, Canada  and Dr. Jose Antonio Ortega, Associate Professor, University of Salamanca, Spain made brief interventions after the six presentations concluded. After the round-table, lunch was offered to all the participants, where the discussion continued.
