We are pleased to share with you a new article by Dr. Gregory T. Papanikos, President of the Athens Institute, titled “Does Success in the Olympic Games Boost Public Participation in Sport?” This was an invited publication by the Economic Observatory. The article challenges the common assumption that winning Olympic medals promotes grassroots sporting activity and improves public health. Contrary to popular belief, the research suggests that Olympic success does not significantly impact public participation in sport.
